Good things do happen in three’s. Jimmy Fallon (one of my favorite comedians) takes over NBC’s The Tonight Show (one of my favorite TV shows) and his first musical guests will be U2 (my favorite band).

Fallon’s music booker, Jonathan Cohen, announced the news on Twitter Sunday evening.

Speaking to the press, Jimmy tells the story about how he tried to book U2 as his first musical guest on NBC’s Late Night in 2009.

When I first started I tried to get U2 as a guest,” said Fallon, . “And they didn’t want to tell me, but at the time they had a secret thing with Letterman. They were doing a week on Letterman. So I couldn’t get them. So instead I got the next best Irishman, which is Van Morrison and he came and he was my first musical guest. So now, hopefully, I have lucky times four.”

With the the Super Bowl ad and Jimmy Fallon appearance within two weeks of each other, I wonder what other appearances they might be trying to schedule? Maybe Saturday Night Live?

Clearly U2 is starting the media blitz to promote their new record. Which is probably a good indication that the new record will be out sometime in March or April the latest.

Don’t miss the premiere of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 17th on NBC—especially if you’re a big U2 fan. I know I’ll be glued to the TV while the DVR does its recording magic.
